D-1 Prospects Emerge at AOG Power 32

While much of the nation is operating at max capacity with “fall basketball,” prep school basketball has been in full swing for nearly two months now. Given that there is no official governing body to designate an athletic calendar for these programs, prep schools can in theory play games from September all the way through June if desired. Given the travel expenses and remote locations of many of these schools, scheduling can be a logistical and financial nightmare for many.

Enter the Attitude of Gratitude Power 32.

Blending many for the top prep programs in the West Region, AOG founder Ryan Silver assembled many of the nation’s finest prep programs under one roof for the Power 32. Already having started the season in Seattle, the Power 32 moved on to the AOG home base of The Phhacility in Phoenix for what is shaping out to be an elite weekend of basketball that has squads from 10 different states and Canada fighting for scholarships as well as their spot in the Power 32 rankings.

Taking in a full day of hoops, here’s a closer look at six players who caught our eye from the opening night of the AOG Power 32 Phoenix stop:

Adrien Isaac Poras, 6’10, PF/C, JKP Academy (Ariz.), 2028

In an absolutely dominant performance, Adrien Isaac Poras reminded everyone that he is still the same prospect that burst onto the scene with Hillcrest Prep years ago. The skilled big man has embraced his role as a new age post by being much more assertive as a rim protector, keeping defenders honest as a floor spacer out to the 3-point line, and remaining a constant lob threat out of the dunker spot. Taking a year off of traditional high school hoops to play in Mexico, the development and refinement that Poras has shown in his game leaves no doubt in anyone’s mind that he will be a priority high major recruit who is bound to shoot up the national rankings.

Roman Henry, 6’4, PG/SG, Iowa United Prep (Iowa), 2029

The best sophomore in the state of Iowa got it done at the Power 32, producing from either backcourt spot. The lanky guard utilized his height to see over the top of defenders, got shooters the rock in scoring situations, and shot it with consistency from the 3-point line. Already holding offers from the likes of Nebraska, West Virginia, and Mississippi State, Henry proved to be one the most talented players in the Power 32, regardless of class.

Vukašin Mušikić, 6’9, SF/PF, SC Global Academy (CA), 2027

New to the United States, Vusakin Musikic made his impact felt at Border League and carried over his strong play to the AOG Power 32. The skilled senior got it done from either forward slot, shot the lights out from the perimeter, and moved with the fluidity of a guard. Coming from the same Serbian program that produced Nikola Jokic, Ivica Zubac, and a host of others NBA players, Vusakin looked the part of next in line potentially.

Ronny Ewanke, 6’10, C, Canyon Academy (Ariz.), 2027

Receiving a tip from respected Arizona scout Gregg Rosenburg, I immediately focused on Ronny Ewanke at the Power 32 and the hype is real.  The long armed big man showcased freakish touch as a pick and pop big, made a number of tough catches in the paint, and provided a presence at the rim defensively.  The native of Cameroon is still adjusting to things here in the states, but will be on the national radar sooner rather than later with his package of size and skill.

Amir Bryant, 6’5, SF, TAD Prep (Nev.), 2027

As far as glue guys were concerned, there weren’t many better than Amir Bryant. The long armed, athletic wing was an absolute game changing defender, had a variety of creative finishes at the rim, and showed potential knocking down open 3-pointers with his feet set. Running with the Houston Defenders in the New Balance P32 League, Bryant changed the game with his high motor and ability to score without plays ran for him, which also carried over to the Power 32.

Dou Yak, 6’9, PF/C, Veritas Academy (Cal.), 2028

Another player who is a perfect big man in today’s game, Dou Yak did exactly what you’d desire out of a floor spacing post. The lefty was great playing out of dribble hand-offs, showed a feathery touch shooting the ball out to the 3-point line, and showed promise as a rim protector.  Toss in the fact the Sudanese-Australian could put it on the deck to pull up from mid-range and you see why there’s a ton of promise surrounding him.
