A Florida woman got a rude awakening after she called 911 following a confrontation with a sanitation worker over the noise from his garbage truck.
Body camera footage of the incident has resurfaced on social media.
The incident happened Aug. 12, 2025, in Palm Beach County, Florida, after the unidentified woman called police while preparing for a work call.
She told responding deputies that a Waste Management truck outside her residence was making repeated beeping noises that were interfering with her Zoom call. She stated that the sanitation vehicle wasn’t moving. However, the worker was actively loading the truck when she began to complain about the noise.
The woman initially tried to get the worker’s attention from upstairs.
“I was like, ‘Excuse me, like, can you make that noise stop?’ Cuz he wasn’t in the vehicle, it wasn’t moving or anything,” she told the deputy. “Like, can you just make the noise stop, like, I have to get on this phone call, people live up here. And he just dismissed me.”
Rather than returning inside, she decided to go downstairs and approach the truck herself.
According to her account, the driver told her to leave, but she instead reached into the garbage truck and turned to the key to shut it off herself.
“So, I come around to the vehicle—I didn’t get in the vehicle—but it was slightly open, so I just stepped up and I shut it off one notch,” she said. The woman claimed in the footage that the worker then grabbed her arm and pulled her down out of the truck.
“Like pulled me and so I pushed him to get off of me and then he punched me in the face,” she said.
However, the deputy’s questioning quickly shifted the focus back toward the woman’s own actions.
The woman denied said she did not have serious injuries and the deputy noted he did not see visible injuries. He repeatedly questioned why she had entered the worker’s vehicle rather than simply remaining inside her home.
The sanitation worker, who identified himself as Fernando in the video, gave deputies a different account. He denied punching the woman and said that she hit herself when he pulled her out of his vehicle. He did, however, confirm that she had pushed him in the chest.
The deputies informed Fernando that he could press charges against the woman for her actions, and the sanitation worker ultimately decided to move forward with the process.
That account ultimately led deputies to arrest the woman for battery.
“All right. So, ma’am, you’re going to be placed under arrest today for simple battery,” an officer told her.
The woman appeared visibly stunned by the decision.
“He punched me in the face and I’m the one that’s going to jail,” she said, incredulous. “I’ve got my two dogs upstairs. I have to pee. I have to call work. This is insane to me right now.”
She continued insisting that she had only reached into the truck to stop the noise.
“I wasn’t even in the vehicle. I turned the key. That was it,” she told the deputy.
Another present deputy disagreed, explaining that entering a vehicle without permission could constitute trespassing under Florida law. He questioned what gave her the authority to interfere with someone else’s truck.
The woman challenged the deputy at one point, asking whether he could accuse her of stealing the truck.
“You’re saying I thefted a car? Do you hear yourself?” she asked.
“Technically, yeah,” the deputy responded.
The arresting deputies took time to explain to the woman why her story didn’t make sense and what precisely she was being arrested for. Notably, they pointed out that the garbage truck was too high off the ground for her to turn it off without entering it.
“There is no logical reason for you to leave your residence and do what you did today. That’s why we’re in this situation,” he explained.
The exchange ended with deputies arranging for someone to care for the woman’s dogs before she was taken into custody.
Online reactions to the encounter have flared up following, with many commenters drawing comparisons to the familiar “Karen” stereotype of white women calling police on Black people over relatively minor disputes.
Some viewed the woman’s arrest as an unexpected reversal, arguing that she appeared to expect law enforcement to side with her after she made the call.
“Cackling. She’s unable to weaponize her tears and is shocked beyond belief,” one person wrote.
Others celebrated the officer’s decision to hold her accountable for her actions. “Gosh, that felt good. I’m over here yelling ‘YES! PRESS THE CHARGES!’” one person wrote.
Several commenters also focused on the woman’s decision to leave her apartment and approach the truck despite having the option to simply remain inside.
“She said she was on the balcony?!? She could have easily gone back inside and shut the door. Entitlement at peak levels.”
