High school basketball is officially here.
With the countless preseason events such as Border League, The Ron Massey Memorial Classic, and the HS Fall Invite, it feels as if the season has been going on for months. However, while there have been some prep school tournaments, the OTE Season Opener is the official start to high school hoops in my eyes … and it started off with a bang that fans and scouts alike have been dying to see.

Moving to a more traditional format, the 2026-27 OTE Season offers eight high schools from all over the national playing under the Overtime Elite Umbrella. Crossing shoe lines and state associations, this year at Overtime Elite proves to be one of the more interesting dude to the mass influx of talent from all over and the cohesiveness that these teams bring to the table.
We already took a look at the hyped Cayden Daughtry vs. Beckham Black matchup that broke the internet, so here’s a look at some of the new names to OTE who left their mark on opening weekend:
.@OvertimeElite is officially here, starting out w/bang of a Florida matchup. Benji Berrouet, 6’8, PF, OTE Faze (Dynamic Prep), 2028
There wasn’t a player to his new home than Benji Berrouet, who paced FAZE to an undefeated 2-0 record on opening weekend. The skilled five-star forward got it done inside and out, utilized his broad frame to carve out space in the paint, and proved that he can be outstanding as a secondary playmaker. In an era where many of the nation’s top prospects have reclassified, it’s hard to believe that this physically mature junior is barely 16 years old. Berrout’s level of production and ability to impact the game in so many different ways should allow him to rise into the top ten of the 2028 rankings nationally.
Tai Bell, 6’3, PG/SG, OTE Cold Hearts (Christopher Columbus HS), 2028
Bringing a football mentality to the basketball court, Tai Bell makes his presence felt far beyond the box score. The gritty combo guard took over the helms as catalyst for Cold Hearts, impacting others with his leadership while maintaining his scoring presence. The two-way guard embraced contact any time that he got into the paint, put immense pressure on the rock defensively, and got the plethora of Cold Hearts bigs the rock in scoring positions, and killed defenders with change of speed. The son of NBA veteran Raja Bell carries over some of his father’s intangibles to the hardwood and is cementing himself as a five star prospects in the junior class.
Martin Sibal, 7’1, C, OTE Cold Hearts (Christopher Columbus HS), 2028
Continuing the wave of International talent that has made its way to Miami, Martin Sibal showed all of the tools that you hope for out of a new age center for the Cold Hearts. The agile big man moved incredibly well, showed that he could make plays for others sfrom the center position, and protected the paint by walling up defensively. The advanced skill set and sheer size that Sibal brings to the table make him one of the better centers in the junior class.
Payton Jones, 6’2, PG, OTE Faze (Dynamic Prep), 2027
Bringing toughness to the hardwood, Payton Jones got it done from either guard spot during Faze’s undefeated first weekend. The sturdy lead guard was absolutely relentless anytime that he had the rock, plays bigger than his height, and constantly produced on both ends of the court. Having committed to Maryland early, the Terrapins got one who is going to bring it every day once he steps foot on campus.
Tayron Malonga, 6’7, SF/PF, RWE (Southeastern Prep), 2027
Playing alongside the nation’s top two seniors in Black and CJ Rosser, it takes a little bit of time to find your role and Tayron Malonga seems to have done that as a playmaking forward. The French senior is an exceptional passer, plays the game at his own speed, and is exploits mismatches when the opportunity presents itself. Holding a dozen D1 offers, the inside/out forward has no shortage of potential homes for next season.
James Nowells, 6’2, G, RWE (Southeastern Prep), 2027
Another addition to RWE was James Nowells, a two-way guard out of Orlando. He was outstanding jumping lanes defensively, accepted the challenge of guarding any perimeter position, and was an elite rebounder from the backcourt. Heading to North Florida next season, Nowells is the type of guy who will make an impact from day one with his toughness, athleticism, and willingness to lock down defensively.
