The beauty of high school basketball is each year, a prospect sprouts up and starts to make a name for himself. That usually happens due to a noticeably increased skill level, they’ve gotten stronger and more explosive or as is case with Shaqer Kizzee, a major growth spurt.

The Carter (Dallas) forward has grown over seven inches in the past year and a half. From being the height of a guard to now a player with center size. Standing at 6’10 with long arms, Kizzee is a power forward that still holds perimeter skills and moves like a perimeter player. Honestly, Shaq looks like he’s not done growing, either. Late bloomers are common in the sports world and that is why I’m confused by the unnecessary hype of middle school talent.
But that’s another article for another day.
Shaq’s Progress
Back to Kizzee, I’ve been monitoring his progression since the TABC, the June scholastic live period event. He’s adjusting better to his increased height and is a legitimate perimeter threat at 6 ’10, albeit skinny, he plays with a good motor and deceptive toughness that will expand as he adds muscle.
Shaq spoke to Ballislife on handling the massive growth spurt and changing positions because of it.
“It’s all about preparation. Icing, doing therapy, really taking care of my body, I have to make sure I stretch well and do the things needed so I can be on the court and stay out there.
“As a guard I felt that my job was to execute coach’s plan, play-make and I had control on how the plan was executed. As a forward, I have to go along and execute how the guard wants to attack the plan.”

Kizzee holds offers from Sac State, UNLV, UTA, Jacksonville, Iona & Alabama A&M. He’s hearing from Houston, Texas, BYU, West Virginia, Baylor and Stanford.
He’s a standout in the classroom as well. Shaq told Ballislife that he’s the No. 1 student currently on his class at Dallas Carter and has a goal of being its valedictorian. He talks about balancing work in the classroom and on the court.
“It’s just sacrificing my free time. I like to hangout with my friends and play video games, but I make sure I do anything related to me having fun after I get my workouts in and my school work done.”
Dallas Carter, which opened at No. 41 in the FAB 50, and currently sits 6-2, will be a team to watch at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas, Dec. 19-23. Kizzee plans to make a major impact in winning and continue to make a name for himself at the NBA certified event (meaning NBA teams can evaluate).
“It’s a chance for me to get really recruited. While I’m there, I just need to lay out all of my game. Defending and playing multiple positions. I want to help my team win and I want people to see I can do a lot of things on the court.”

Shaq’s Eval and Conclusion
A new edition to the ESPN 60, Kizzee is a 6 ’10 forward that’s a fluid mover. A respectable three point shooter that has the ability to attack closeouts with either hand. He utilizes his length on both ends, as a shooter, rim protector and rebounder. As he fully adjusts to this outlier growth spurt and puts on muscle and adds more vertical pop, I think Shaq will only see his stock go up as the year continues. One to keep tabs off because his best basketball is ahead.
