INDIANAPOLIS — Paige Bueckers outplayed Caitlin Clark in their first head-to-head meeting of the 2026 season, Arike Ogunbowale scored 22 points in her season debut, and Clark missed a 3-pointer with a chance to send the game to overtime as the Dallas Wings beat the Indiana Fever 107-104 on Saturday in front of a sold-out crowd of 17,274 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Bueckers finished with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting in 32 minutes, while Clark shot 7-of-18 with 5 turnovers in posting 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists. The result was the kind of statement night Dallas needed to validate an offseason overhaul that included hiring head coach Jose Fernandez, drafting Azzi Fudd with the No. 1 overall pick, and signing Alanna Smith, Jessica Shepard, and Odyssey Sims in free agency.
Sims also scored 20 points for Dallas, and Fudd added 3 points in 18 minutes off the bench in her WNBA debut.
Kelsey Mitchell, who missed a chance to tie the game at the final buzzer, led Indiana with 30 points. Aliyah Boston finished with 23 points.

Bueckers shot 8-of-10 from the field, and Sims shot 8-of-11. Shepard posted 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists in her Wings debut.
Aziaha James converted a four-point play when she was fouled on a made 3-pointer with 9:09 to go in the fourth quarter, putting the Wings ahead 84-82. Dallas never trailed again.
Clark missed a 3-pointer with about seven seconds remaining, and Mitchell’s miss at the buzzer followed two missed free throws from Bueckers.
Dallas shot 59.1% from the field and 52.2% from deep. Indiana shot 51.9% from the field and made 29.2% from beyond the arc.
The contest, broadcast nationally on ABC, marked the first season opener in WNBA history in which both teams scored 100 points.
Dallas Builds Early Lead Behind Backcourt Production
Dallas opened with a starting lineup of Sims, Bueckers, Ogunbowale, Shepard, and Smith under Fernandez. Sims scored eight points in the first quarter, going 2-of-2 from beyond the arc to help the Wings take a 27-25 lead after one.
The Wings shot 22-of-37 (59.5%) from the field in the first half and went 10-of-16 (62.5%) from three to take a 60-51 lead into the locker room. Ogunbowale led Dallas with 13 points, 1 rebound, and 5 assists at halftime, while Bueckers and Shepard each had 10 points.
Bueckers entered the game eight points shy of 700 for her career and reached the mark on a 16-foot jumper with 6:02 remaining in the first half.
Indiana Surges in the Third, Wings Close in the Fourth
Indiana outscored Dallas 29-20 in the third quarter to tie the game at 80 entering the fourth. Mitchell and Clark combined for 11 of Indiana’s points in the period, while Sims paced the Wings with seven.
Fernandez said he relied on a veteran closing group of Smith, Shepard, Sims, Ogunbowale, and Bueckers.
“I tried to rest them as much as we could in the fourth, but I wish we could have rested them a little bit more, probably another minute and a half for them to close,” Fernandez said.
After James’ four-point play, Ogunbowale added a fast-break layup to push the lead to 86-82 and force an Indiana timeout with 8:57 to go. The Fever cut the deficit to one, 101-100, on a missed free throw put-back by Boston with 1:32 left, but Dallas held on at the line.
Sims made one of two free throws with 13.2 seconds remaining to give Dallas a 107-104 lead before Clark’s missed 3-pointer.

Ogunbowale Sets the Tone in Season Debut
Ogunbowale played in her first game since August 10, 2025, after missing the final 12 games of the 2025 season with injury. She shot 8-of-15 from the field, 3-of-7 from 3-point range, and scored 22 points in 28 minutes.
Ogunbowale was a late arrival to training camp after finishing a championship run in China, causing her to miss both of the Wings’ preseason games. Fernandez praised her performance as a reflection of her film study and preparation, enabling her to hit the ground running upon her return.
“I thought it was a pretty good performance,” Fernandez said. “As a team, 26 assists on 39 baskets. We’d like to take more than 66 shots. But 60 percent from the floor, 52 percent from three. We missed some free throws down the stretch — that’s not gonna happen. But it’s great to start off a season with a win.”
Ogunbowale said establishing aggression early was a point of emphasis.
“That’s how we approach the game every game. You wanna come out and be the aggressors,” Ogunbowale said. “They always have a big crowd here. Obviously, if they’re going on runs, the crowd’s gonna get hype, and we kinda wanted to settle that.”
Bueckers Shows Efficiency, Shepard Nearly Triple-Doubles
Bueckers finished with one turnover and went 1-of-3 from 3-point range in her sophomore-season debut.
“She’s just good. She makes good decisions,” Fernandez said. “She reads how she’s being guarded. Having coached against her and seeing her now, she sees things two, three times ahead of stuff. And that’s remarkable.”
Shepard, who signed with Dallas in the offseason, finished one rebound and one assist shy of a triple-double with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists, and 2 steals.
“It’s what made her so attractive in free agency — her ability to playmake, run the offense, be someone that we can throw the ball to to alleviate pressure, and just make great reads,” Bueckers said. “She can score, rebound, pass, defend. She’s really an all-purpose four player who can play all positions on the floor.”
Sims, who returned to Dallas for her first regular-season game with the Wings since 2024, shot 2-of-3 from 3-point range and added 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
“I’m happy to be with Dallas. I’m back at home. I love it,” Sims said. “We got this win today. We’ll go back, build on it, and see how we can be better next game.”

Stephanie White Points to Defensive Lapses
Indiana coach Stephanie White said her team’s defensive discipline must improve after allowing Dallas to shoot 59.1% from the field.
“We’ve got to be more disciplined. The difference in their uncontested looks from three compared to our contested looks was significant,” White said. “Sometimes we over-rotated when we didn’t need to. Sometimes we had coverage breakdowns. We gave up too much in transition and fouled too many shooters.”
Clark said she dealt with a back issue that required adjustments in the locker room during the game.
“Just getting my back adjusted. It gets out of line pretty quickly, so it was just getting my back put back in place a little bit,” Clark said. “Other than that, I feel great.”
Makayla Timpson added 11 points off the bench for Indiana on 5-of-6 shooting in 19 minutes.
What’s Next
