AB Elite Brings The House at GASO Pre-Live Showcase

With the NCAA running their scholastic live periods June 11-14 and then June 25-28, most high school players opt to spend the month with their high school programs. Events such as Section 7, Cali Live, the TABC Showcase, and countless others provide five-star prospects with the opportunity to gain exposure to D-I coaches with their high school teams during those two weekends. However, the ever-so-important July live period is right around the corner, and many teams want a slight tune-up before playing for keeps in July.

Enter the GASO Pre-Live Showcase.

Held at the Ryse StarCenter right by the airport in Dallas, the event was in perfect proximity logistically and brought the masses. Most teams played two games to get some run in, implement new sets for July, and/or give others a chance to shine who may not have received that much burn early on. Programs such as Southern Assault (Adidas 3SSB), Rashard Lewis Academy (New Balance P32), 3D Empire (Puma PRO 16), Drive Nation (Nike EYBL), AB Elite (Nike EYBL) and Pro Skills (Nike EYBL) all went at, along with a number of independent teams looking to make a statement.

However, Sunday brought some new names.

AB Elite (EYBL), Team Nation (New Balance P32), and Houston Hoops (EYBL) also entered the group to get some run in before the scholastic period, bringing some serious prospects with them for the ride.

We’ll have plenty of comprehensive coverage at the conclusion of the event and already went in depth with Saturday’s recap, but here were some of the key notes from Sunday’s GASO Pre-Live Showcase:

AB Elite Brings The House to Ryse SportsCenter

Despite the nation’s top point guard, Beckham Black, and Marri Wesley taking the weekend off, AB Elite still brought a bigger crowd than anyone in the Lone Star State to GASO. It served as a great opportunity to watch some of their other D-I prospects take on large roles, and Magic guard Anthony Black was right there on the bench, taking it all in.

Six-foot-5 Isaiah Santos was in attack mode every time that he got the ball, thriving in the role of power wing. There wasn’t a single guard who could stay in front of 6-foot-1 Aiden Groce (pictured) when he got a head of steam, and the lead guard made some dynamic plays once he got to the paint.

Six-foot-9 long-armed big Steven McLeod already holds mid-major offers, but if he keeps playing with this type of assertiveness on the offensive end he’ll keep tracking up. Of course, high major prospects Xander Pruzinsky and Avery Huston held it down as well, but the other aforementioned players certainly left lasting impressions as well during AB Elite’s two victories.

Houston Hoops 15U Brings Game-Altering Length and Athleticism to GASO

As a whole, there wasn’t a better team defensively than the Houston Hoops 15U group.  Spearheaded by agile 6-foot-9 2029 Felix Okam, the Hoops were able to totally change the dynamic of every game they played in with their full fourth press, blocked shots and deflections. Okam protected the rim with his freakish length, while 6-foot-3 two-sport star T.J. Johnson put immense pressure on the rock on the perimeter.

Players such as Jerrell Copeland, Brayden Landers, and Julius Ogunfuye held it down from the forward spot. Once this squad can gain more consistent 3-point shooting (they averaged just four made threes per game in EYBL 15U play), they have a chance to be right up there with the best that Nike has to offer collectively.

Sunday GASO Notebook

• After a slow start on Saturday, 6-foot-2 2029 Vijay Keshaav bounced back and showed the game that landed him offers from the likes of Cal, Arizona State, and Mississippi State early on as a freshman. The Frisco Memorial (Texas) guard constantly put pressure on defenders, had a number of creative takes a the rim, and played with a much higher level of aggression. You could easily see why he has so many stars next to his name with the way that he wrapped things up at GASO.

• Though he didn’t put up huge numbers, the sky is the limit with 6-foot-8 2029 KJ Gabriel of Mansfield Legacy (Texas). Having first seen him at the 2025 Pangos All South Frosh/Soph Camp, I loved the long term potential that he brought to the table. He is a confident shooter with his feet set, can finish above the rim in transition, and lets the game come to him. Running with a stacked AB Elite team, the Dallas product certainly knew how to get his own on a squad loaded with future D-1 talent.

• Six-foot-3 Avery Huston took it upon himself to remind everyone that he’s far more than just a shooter at the GASO Pre-Live Showcase.  The traveled guard will be spending his senior year at Monarch Sports Academy (Kan.) and will be bringing them a high major two guard. He was great making reads coming off screens, would put it on the deck to get to his pull-up, and put a hurting on the rim in transition. The AB Elite guard recently picked up a Virginia offer and has no shortage of high major suitors for the next level.
