Plenty of pay-per-view events in the 1v1 space emphasize one or two games on the main card and use the rest of the matchups as filler, but the establishment of the 1 on 1 Championship has further solidified the fact that every matchup on every Ballislife card is must-see.
Now that rankings and championship belts are in play and legacies are on the line, every single matchup matters. Whether it’s Nasir Core putting his historic win streak on the line or a lesser-known player establishing themselves as a name in the space, the storylines are layered and often come full circle in a way that’s completely unique to the sport of 1v1.
At Ballislife Redemption in Detroit on Sept. 26, the “undercard” so to speak is considerably strong and filled with local talent. Tray Croft is taking on Flint native Keyon Menefield in a highly sought after matchup between two emerging names in the space that have made quite a name for themselves on YouTube.
Ypsilanti’s own Latin “Lat” Davis is looking to stop Scar’s rapid rise up the 1v1 ranks in what is almost certainly Scar’s biggest test yet. Darius “DA” Adams is back outside after nearly beating Rob Colon for a second time at All In, and this time he’s facing the task of ending Reese McDonald’s four-game win streak.

Tray vs Keyon
Redemption is exactly what Tray Croft is in search of when he steps onto the court in Detroit. He knows more than anyone that the performance he turned in against Mike Harden at All In wasn’t up to his standards. September 26 is the perfect chance for Croft to make a statement and prove that he’s still a force to be reckoned with in the space.
“I’m very motivated,” Croft said. “I know the fans that want to see this, and coming off my last pay-per-view match, it was a bad performance. So, I’m looking to really come in and make a statement. I’ve been in the lab.”
The reality is, not many people are giving him a chance against the hometown star, Keyon, but that just means it’s going to turn even more heads if Croft performs to the level he’s capable of and pulls off the upset. Especially in front of Keyon’s people.
“It definitely means a lot more for me to go to Detroit and win in his territory,” Croft said. “Because he’s a fan favorite, and I really ain’t gonna have no fans there with me, for real. That motivates me, for sure”
Latin Davis vs Scar
Latin Davis is on the other side of the hometown advantage in his matchup. Ypsilanti is a hop, skip and a jump from Detroit, and Latin expects a solid crowd of friends and family in attendance for his pivotal matchup against Scar. For some, that adds more pressure to an already tense environment, but that’s not something Latin has ever focused on.
“I’m from Ypsilanti, so it’s like 30 minutes down the road,” Latin said. “But just by being in Michigan, a lot of people will come out and support. So, I’m just ready to put on a show, for real … I really don’t really focus about in the crowd anyway, to be honest with you. So, whenever I’m playing, I’m really just focused on the game itself. It’s really no pressure.”
It’s no secret that a win over Scar would boost Latin’s resume in the 1v1 space considerably. A win over Latin would do the same for Scar. In Latin’s eyes, his biggest key to victory is simply coming out hot and playing his game.
“I have to come out and really just be myself,” Latin said. “You know, come out and play my game, and really just come out on a fresh start, come out hot. I know Scar has been doing his thing lately, so I just want to come out and be prepared and be me. Whenever I got a matchup, I trust myself over anybody else. So, I’ll just try to go out there and be as prepared as possible and really just focus on me.”
