Snoop Dogg can count on the Queen of Funk, Chaka Khan, to have his back.
This summer, the two stars teamed up on the track “Boogie’s in My Soul” from her latest album, “Chakzilla,” released this month.
The 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee was promoting her new project, her 13th solo LP, when she received the sweetest interruption from her hip-hop contemporary.
Chaka was speaking with People during an album listening party hosted by SiriusXM in New York when Snoop surprised her with a phone call.
“I love his heart. He’s got the biggest heart in the world, and he’s such a beautiful, smart human being,” Khan gushed about the West Coast rap legend.
She recalled the joy and fun she had filming the video for their feel-good single.
And then, Chaka was handed a phone and greeted by the hitmaker on Facetime. “Hey, mayne!” she said with a smile and giggles, informing him that she was in the middle of an interview.
The welcomed break from work was followed up with Snoop giving his friend a rundown of what his life currently looks like.
“I’m shooting my biopic right now,” he shared.
“Oh, it’s going to be such a great story,” the “I Feel for You” songstress responded. “How’s it making you feel?”
“You know what, I get to bring my mother back to life. I get to bring my brother back to life. That’s what I’m getting, that emotional uplift of bringing them back to life again, ” Snoop said.
Chaka offered him comforting words. “That’s beautiful. That’s the beauty of it, baby. That’s the beauty. They’re always with us,” she said.
Snoop’s mother, Beverly Tate, died at age 70 in October 2021. Five months earlier, the rapper had asked fans to pray for the family matriarch following her hospitalization for undisclosed health complications.
“Thank u God for giving me an angel for a mother,” he captioned a photo of his number one lady on Instagram.
Snoop’s younger brother, Bing Worthington, died at age 44 in February 2024. In a poignant tribute video, Snoop wrote that his sibling “always made us laugh” and “u bac with moms.”
Fans relished at the glimpse of the superstars’ friendship, writing comments like, “That is so so sweet!”, “Wow,” and “Snoop has the best Aunties and friends.”
Someone else shared, “Not me over here getting emotional.. that was so sweet.” And fourth individual remarked, “Bless his heart. He is a good man.”
The bonding moment even sparked hopes of a biopic for the “I’m Every Woman” vocalist, too. “Love it!..I can’t wait until Chaka comes out with a Biopic movie-Oscars,” said one fan.
Renewed praise for Snoop arrives months after he upset fans by performing for a Trump inauguration event.
Even the comment about him being a “good man” comes on the heels of discourse about his past infidelities. The rapper has been married to his wife, Shante Broadus, for 29 years. The couple shares three adult children. He is also the father to a fourth child, an adult son, from a previous relationship.
First announced in 2022, the long-awaited biopic “Snoop” is moving from development to the big screen.
Snoop took the stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April to reveal that cameras were officially rolling on the Death Row Pictures production, setting up an Aug. 6, 2027 theatrical release.
Actor Jonathan Daviss will portray the rap icon, starring alongside Lauren London as his late mother. Directed by Craig Brewer, the ensemble cast also features Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre and Tre Hale as Suge Knight.
