Kash Patel, President Donald Trump’s handpicked selection to run the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has become one of the most lambasted officials in the federal government.

Critics slammed the MAGA chief’s decision to nominate the Long Island native to be FBI director in his administration. Patel, 47, faced accusations of being unqualified for the job.

Senators eventually confirmed Patel. But during his tenure as FBI director, the former podcaster couldn’t avoid various scandals that cast doubt on his leadership.

The unforced errors keep coming. The Patel-led FBI recently made a major typo about the 2026 midterm elections, leaving social media users in disbelief.

Most voters likely know they must cast a vote in the midterms by Tuesday, Nov. 3. It seems one FBI branch failed to recognize a blatant error about the highly contested election.

According to reports, the FBI’s New Haven office publicized the wrong Election Day information. The post reportedly stayed online for hours before being taken down.

“Election Day is Wednesday and the #FBI is working around the clock to ensure the midterms are safe,” read the now-deleted tweet.

By Tuesday morning, the error-ridden message was no longer on the @FBINewHaven page. While the tweet was scrubbed from the platform, screenshots remain.

People on the social networking app had both questions and jokes about how a federal agency could drop the ball in such an embarrassing way.

“Why is the FBI falsely telling people that the election is on Wednesday?” journalist Ken Klippenstein wondered in his own Nov. 2-dated tweet.

“The people most likely to believe that are MAGA voters anyway,” another poster suggested. “Real Patriots vote when Trump tells them, on Wednesday!” read another sarcastic tweet.

Some commenters went further, suggesting the timing was no accident. Many accused officials of trying to suppress voter turnout through confusion.

“They know exactly what they’re doing,” the user wrote. “Trying to surreptitiously confuse voters so they don’t turn out TODAY, Tuesday! Election interference.”

Other users turned their criticism toward the bureau’s current leader. One poster wrote, “The ironic thing is the only people dumb enough to fall for this are MAGAs.”

Another asked, “Are we supposed to believe that Kash Patel’s FBI is so incompetent they can’t even figure out what day the election is on?”

Since taking over the FBI, Patel is no stranger to being called inept.

The Atlantic claimed that the FBI director engaged in excessive drinking, erratic behavior, and unexplained absences. Patel called the accusations “unequivocally categorically false.”

“I will not be tarnished by baseless allegations,” Patel told Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen after being grilled at a May 2026 Senate hearing about the drinking claims.

In addition, Patel has faced severe scrutiny over allegations that he used the FBI’s private jet for personal travel with his girlfriend, country music singer Alexis Wilkins.

Although federal law prohibits federal agents from being deployed at the polls, the FBI’s potential involvement in this year’s midterm elections has sparked unease across the nation.

Democratic senators questioned Patel about possible FBI interference at polling sites when he appeared at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in September.

“We will always follow the law and the guidelines,” Patel stated.

When later asked if he pledges not to “interfere in the will of the American people,” he scornfully responded, “I pledge unequivocally that I will not participate in your charade of lies.”
